Abstract
n-Butane isomerization in the presence of hydrogen has been studied over Al-promoted sulfated zirconas (SAZ). In particular, the influence of the sulfate loading has been examined over SAZ catalysts with 6 mol% Al2O3. An optimum performance was found for 7.5 nominal wt% sulfate. This catalyst has a high Bronsted acidity content (NH3-IR) and a sulfate density which, in terms of surface coverage, is close to that necessary for achieving a complete monolayer.
