Abstract
In the coming years the European Common Agricultural Policy will be modified through the introduction of a Greening Payment. A significant share of the subsidies will in future be linked to rewarding farmers for the provision of environmental public goods. In particular, the European farmers will be subjects to maintain "ecological focus area" across their farms. As reservoirs of biodiversity, water bodies are one of the natural resources targeted by this measure. Members' states need therefore a very high resolution mapping of water bodies to monitor precisely their presence and extent variations. This research proposes a semi‐automatic method to update the regional water bodies map. Furthermore, this accurate map can be use as a validation dataset to support at larger scale mapping.
