Abstract
(en) This article examines how the serial factor in housing was taken into account in the processes of institutional and social heritage recognition in the second half of the 20th century, based on the evolving horizontal housing of Candilis, Josic and Woods, and in particular the cité des Muriers in Toulouse which was awarded the "Patrimoine du XXe siècle" label in 2016. The housing estate is the synthesis of its architects' twofold research on the versatility of housing and on Mediterranean habitats, which included a series of projects characterised by the combination of compact houses and the development of living spaces around patios. To what extent does the serial aspect brought about by the authorship of the work and the serial nature inherent in the project question the process of heritage designation? The archives of the cité des Muriers and other projects of the Candilis team are analyzed alongside interviews with the residents and the Conservation department of the Historical monuments headquarters.
