(en) This article gives an insight into what Edgar Allan Poe labelled "The Spirit of Perverseness". It provides the reader with a brief analysis of the short stories "The Black Cat", "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Imp of the Perverse" before linking Poe's tales to psychoanalytical concepts that were formulated more than fifty years after the publication of the aforementioned tales.
