Abstract
[Antidotes in the treatment of acute intoxications by metal compounds] Numerous antidotes (chelating agents) are avalaible for the treatment of acute or chronic poisoning due to several metals. The purpose of this article is to review the clinical indications and rules of administration of these substances. As the metal-chelating agent complex is mainly excreted in the urine, renal function should be checked before administering chelating agents. Nevertheless, in some acute cases with impaired renal function, chelating agents should be considered, if they are coupled to extra-renal epuration procedures.
