Abstract
It is now essential for businesses to provide the best experience to their customers to ensure their competitiveness. As a result, technologies are continuously evolving to offer more immersive, rich, and comprehensive experiences. Notably, some of these technologies, originally rooted in the realm of video games known for their captivating immersion, have found new applications in e-commerce and are poised to play a significant role in the future metaverse. Among these technologies is gestural interaction, which leverages meaningful human body movements to control computer-based information systems. However, from a marketing perspective, the impact of gestural interaction on the consumer experience remains largely unexplored. A deeper understanding of this relationship could empower practitioners to effectively integrate gestural interaction technology and identify crucial considerations during its development and implementation. Moreover, from a human-computer interaction perspective, there is a pressing need to establish comprehensive methods for evaluating the user experience associated with gestural interaction technologies. Therefore, this doctoral thesis addresses three principal objectives. Firstly, it delves into the notion of experience and its various facets as presented in different literatures. Secondly, it investigates the application of gestural interaction technologies in the context of consumption to evaluate its effects on the overall consumer experience. Lastly, the thesis proposes and defines a model and method for assessing the holistic quality of experience when employing gestural interaction technologies.
