(en) [Management of cardiovascular risk factors] All patients who presented atherosclerosis-related cardiac, cerebral, renal or peripheral ischaemia (discussed in the following articles) are at high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. In these patients, the incidence of ischaemic events is markedly reduced if the cardiovascular risk factors are corrected: smoking, fat-rich diet, lack of physical exercice, overweight, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and diabetes. Nevertheless, recent studies showed that these risk factors remain too frequently present in the setting of the secondary prevention. This article reminds the general practionners their key role in the long-term management of the life style of patients with atherosclerosis.
