(2024) Workshop: Looking beyond Western Frameworks: Theoretical and Conceptual Approaches from the Global South. 9EMES Training School — Location: Trento, Italy (1.July.2024)
Looking beyond Western frameworks: theoretical and conceptual approaches from the Global South on the SE Rationale: Most research on the SE originates from the Global North, often obfuscating alternative voices that are present and alive in many contexts of the Global South. In these contexts, SE experiences are often associated with informal economies, but this represents only a partial view that leaves the epistemological, theoretical and empirical richness of this phenomenon aside. Thanks to the contribution of the EMES ECRs group, participants will be invited to “decolonise” their views on SE by exploring and giving value to indigenous worldviews that are reflected in how local communities organise their socio-economic activities all over the non-western world. Decolonial approaches to SE will be illustrated in general and with a reflection on decolonial approaches, particularly by drawing on examples from Latin American and African countries.
