Abstract
Emotional awareness refers to the ability to understand feelings that can often be unpleasant and distressing, and to respond to and regulate our emotions more effectively. Deficiencies in emotional awareness may lead to psychopathology, such as alexithymia. Thecliterature on the cerebral underpinnings of emotional awareness is scarce, and the results are conflicting. Whereas some studies point to a role of the (anterior) insula1, others favor a role of the posterior superior temporal sulcus. The aim of this study was therefore to use resting state functional connectivity to better characterize the neural network mediating emotional awareness.
