- Abstract
- Jewelry and adornment are well studied in the European courts of the late Middle Ages; however, this is not the case for their presence in middle sized cities. The ample and well-preserved archives of Dijon allow us to study urban society through those adorned objects. It enables us to better understand who the producers, buyers and importers are. The regulations for the production of jewels are strict but right and ensure a result of recognized quality. The dress accessories are indicative of behavior patterns, social markers and of an economy that surpasses the city walls and that can take a symbolic importance.
