After some reminders concerning the context and history of the drawing up of Dei Verbum, this article shows in what way this Constitution realizes before anything else the conception of Revelation as doctrine and teaching. However while seeking for a definition of Revelation before and underneath the duality between Scripture and Tradition, it proposes, despite its numerous developments concerning the Bible, a definition of the latter before and underneath Scripture as letter and book by identifying it with the Word of God. But why should Christians read the Bible, and only this book, as the Word of God? It is this question which becomes difficult to think out.
