Abstract
The objective of this thesis was to analyze the non-pharmacological management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis. The first study aimed to determine, through a retrospective study, the influence of the distance from the patient’s home to the rehabilitation center on adherence to a pulmonary rehabilitation program. The second study was a meta-analysis to investigate the effects of mechanical chest physiotherapy on lung hyperinflation in patients with COPD. Four other studies were carried out with a recent device introduced on the market to analyze its effects on expiratory flow limitation, using an in vitro model, on expiratory volume, and on gas trapping in patients with COPD. We also analyzed its effect on airway clearance in patients with cystic fibrosis.
