- Abstract
- The aim of the paper is to consider how the working-class past is managed by Mons 2015. What is the place of this memory ? In what contexts ? For which kind of perspectives ? Faced with these questions, the paper takes into account the concepts of memory scape and multi-sited method which have been developed by the anthropologist Paul Basu. With these concepts, our aim is to propose the exploration and the connection of two significant sites where the working-class past is used. The first site will be the example of the “Site du Levant”, a Belgian coal mining deserted in the end of the sixties and rebought in 1997. The second one will focus on the key film of Mons 2015, which is Lust for Life (1956), a biopic of Vincent Van Gogh by Vincente Minnelli with Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn.
