- Pure 3-methylpentane was irradiated in its solid vitreous state at 77 K. The qualitative analysis of the dimeric products was made by mean of capillary chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The identification of the dimers, highly branched dodecanes, required the synthesis of compounds whose structure was defined by NMR C-13 DEPT; they were characterised by their retention index measured at several temperatures on the capillary SE30 column.
