Abstract
(en) Traditional Quechua tales from the Andes have been collected for their identification function as a testimony for a specific culture. Paradoxically, they are also a paradigm of cultural globalisation. Indeed, the comparison with Spanish and Indo-European accounts unravels an undeniable morphological and thematic unity. The tales have crossed the borders between the West and Latin America. A comparative analysis highlights the invariants and variables of this particular form of multicultural communication. It is therefore possible not only to interpret the meaning of apparently irrational universal motifs, but also to understand the underlying syncretism.
