Abstract
Digital Sequence Information remains at the heart of several negotiation fora, crystallizing tensions between actors. This side event provides an updated overview of negotiations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC), and the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework/Pandemic Treaty. Speakers will identify potential ways forward to overcome the ongoing conundrum. The role played by science in the negotiation and adoption of rights, obligations and policies regulating DSI and ABS will be addressed from different perspectives.
