Abstract
The present document sets out a framework and provides recommendations for expressing reclamation and reuse rates by setting, monitoring and reporting on reclamation and reuse targets in construction projects. The report is divided into 4 parts. The first aims to provide a clear definition of re-use as understood in the proposed method, differentiating between recovery rates and re-use rates, for example, and the reference units that can be used in materials accounting. The second part explains the advantages and disadvantages, incentives and points to bear in mind when opting for a quantitative target for reuse in a project. Part three develops the approach that can be used to set, measure and report recovery rates, while part four focuses on reuse rates: it proposes a clear quantitative analysis protocol that can be applied to projects incorporating a reuse approach. The conclusions present the limits and opportunities of a reuse approach from a quantitative point of view, by setting quantified targets. This document has been produced as part of the Interreg NWE 739 FCRBE project (Facilitating the Circulation of Reclaimed Building Elements), implemented between October 2018 and December 2023. It is one of the four reports produced within the FCRBE project as part of the work on reuse (and reclamation) rates.
