- Abstract
- This paper outlines and discusses the notion of boundary throughout contemporary cities and territories. In particular, it considers how a series of a current practices and processes are forging a systematic crossing of different thresholds. The notion of boundary is here discussed: (a) as that limit that used to clearly define the difference between city and countryside; (b) as the administrative border that draws visible and invisible barriers and materializes powers and policies; (c) as a boundaries through the disciplines that nowadays are called upon to respond to the multiple challenges of urban transition; (d) as the limits that traditional design and planning tools are disclosing; and (e)ultimately as the new frontier that the digital era is introducing.
