(2010) Tourner autour du pot…Les ateliers des potiers médiévaux du Ve au XIIe siècle dans l’espace européen — Location: Douai (France) (5.October.2010)
The excavations carried out at the Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi site have unearthed the remains of a vast villa inhabited since the late third or the early fourth century A.D. and reused in the sixth century by a community of craftsmen in order to settle workshops for the production of various goods. This latest period of occupation has provided numerous archaeological finding, including a large quantity of coarse ware (acroma grezza). This ceramic type, mainly represented by olle, delivered lids whose detailed analysis has improved the understanding of their morphological, technological and functional characteristics. Starting from these lids, this paper is dedicated to the local coarse ware, a ceramic type studied in a marginal way and whose Tuscan centres of production have not yet been located. Nevertheless the discovery of a kiln on the Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi site opens up new perspectives in the identification of production centres in Tuscany.
