More than 10000photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) with a diameter of80 mm will be installed inmulti-PMT Digital Optical Modules (mDOMs) of the IceCubeUpgrade. These have been tested and pre-calibrated at two sites. Athroughput of more than 1000 PMTs perweek with both sites was achieved with a modular design of thetesting facilities and highly automated testing procedures. Thetesting facilities can easily be adapted to other PMTs, such thatthey can, e.g., be re-used for testing the PMTs forIceCube-Gen2. Single photoelectron response, high voltagedependence, time resolution, prepulse, late pulse, afterpulseprobabilities, and dark rates were measured for each PMT. Wedescribe the design of the testing facilities, the testingprocedures, and the results of the acceptance tests.
