- (en) This article provides an introduction to the special issue of Letras Hispanas on new links between intimacy and politics that come about in contemporary Latin American film and literature. On the basis of the nine analyses included in the special issue, the authors distinguish two modes of addressing intimacy and relating it to the political realm: one which is grounded in proximity with the reader or the viewer, and another one which, on the contrary, consists of creating distance. The first mode can be observed in (autobiographical or autofictional) works which content is marked by the construction and/or exhibition of the self, and by a vacillating memory that questions hegemonic political conceptions. The second mode relies on a minimalistic and intimist register through which both intimacy and politics are approached in an indirect, frequently allegorical way.
