Based on academic requirements taxonomy, this study analyzed the role of social requirements on important factors in the adjustment process to university(self-efficacy, engagement, courses’value…). Social requirements are divided into three dimensions: the perception of the social climate, the quality of the relationship with students and the quality of the relationship with teachers. Path analyses were carried out on 1,298 freshmen. The preliminary results highlighted that (1) the perception of the social climate is related to students’ self-efficacy and socioeconomic status; (2) the relationship with teacher determined further behavioral engagement; (3) the relationship with peers determined further courses’ value. The relationship between social requirements and achievement (GPA after the first and second semester) is still under investigation. We discuss the implications and limitations of this new perspective at the end of the presentation.
