Abstract
Stolzembourg, a little village at 6 kilometres in the North of Vianden (Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg) is characterized by a significant copper mineralization. These takes place by a non negligible fault system in the Devon Schists and more accurately Emsian Schists. This system is visible inside the Stolzembourg's mine galleries and also inside the exploration galleries present in its vicinity. Nothing is perceptible on the surface outcrops. This thesis permits to show these different tectonic networks by the way of some geophysical methods such as gravimetry, magnetism, gamma-ray spectrometry and radon emanation. This innovating character is the comparison, for this area, between a traditional geological survey and the geophysical results. For the first time, the analysis and the interpretation of the regional belgo-luxemburger gravimetric, magnetic and radiometric maps show a very good correlation between geology and large scale geophysics dataset. The methodology and the different treatments, classical for some methods and innovating for other, have been developed and adapted for the study area. Three fault groups can be deduced : NNO-SSE faults, NO-SE faults and ENE-OSO faults. The characterization of their tectonic nature (strike slip faults and backthrust faults) and their mineralogical filling (chalcopyrite, barite, quartz, clays) have been realized. Finally a chronological trial, in relation with large scale events, has been proposed.
