Psychotherapy is both a work of searching of meaning on the origins of the suffering often actualised in symptom and a process of change whose goal is acceding to new emotional and relational experiences in actual life. This article attests this double movement, work on the past and on the present, in the context of the therapeutic group for authors of sexual infractions that we lead. We clarify our representations of the culture of the family of origin of these patients, particularly about what contributed of preparing a sexual abuse in the next generation. These links allow the patient to win a feeling of coherence and to be less determined by his history. In the therapy, the patient can progressively experiment new emotional and relational modalities in which respect and freedom prevail over constraint. We illustrate this work with clinical cases and discuss the specificities of our approach, in the way of exploring the transgenerational dimension and our intervention style. Finally we discuss the interest of the group setting and of the cotherapy.
