This essay proposes a 5-faceted definition of patriarchal housing. In a patriarchal society, housing is a place of relegation for women, a social marker of gender inequalities, a place of work and exploitation, the primary site of differentiated socialization between girls and boys, and a space of power and violence. Housing is also defined as a resource for feminist transformation, reviving the slogan "the private is political" by proposing recommendations on housing location and attention to intermediate spaces from an intersectional perspective.
