The beta (/b E//sub 0/=11.76 MeV)- gamma (1.63 MeV) directional correlation has been measured as a function of the beta -energy in the decay of /sup 20/Na. Denoting the correlation function by /b W//sub +/( thetas )=1+ alpha /sub +/(/b E/) cos/sup 2 / thetas , the result can be expressed phenomenologically as alpha /sub +/(/b E/)=[(-4.0 +/-0.7*/sup -3//b E /+(1.3+/-0.9)*10/sup -4//b E//sup 2/] (/b p ///b E/)/sup 2/, where /b E/ is the positron total energy in MeV and /b p/ its momentum in MeV/c. Assuming the correctness of nuclear structure calculations and the validity of the conserved vector current theory, it indicates the presence of a second-class current in the nuclear weak interaction.
