(en) Beyond the socio-cultural factors that affect museum attendance, the crucial issue arises of the museum experience in itself. The objective of this comprehensive research is to deepen our understanding of the children’s cultural experience during visits to the art and history museums. The focus of this research is the conceptualization of the heart of this experience. Due to the nature of the question and its innovative aspect, the “Grounded Theory” approach was chosen because of its qualitative and interpretative methodological orientation. This research is composed of three interpretative sub-studies related to different contexts of children’s visits: school visits, family visits and day camps. This analysis reveals the key dimensions of this specific experience and its impact on cultural socialization. The results of this study could contribute to optimize the success of cultural offerings targeting children as well as the success of cultural socialization in general.
