- (en) Spiritualities are not a common source for the Early Modern Church history. After decades of ongoing studies of spiritual movements and theologies, the material conveying spiritual teachings – and notably, the printed book – is still out of scope of the mainstream research. Nonetheless, the book printing activities of spiritual writers are at the heart of confessionalization dynamics and Modern Era Church policies. A part of the missionary strategies, they contribute to the Konfessionsbildung and form a bridge between university and monastic theologies and popular religious believes and practices. The printed book of spirituality appeals to an interdisciplinary approach, allying social and cultural history of religion, critical history of texts and history of the book. The author will provide a quantitative study and a graph database of Greek books of spirituality as examples to illustrate the approach he advocates in the paper.
