Fusion welding of dissimilar metals is a challenge. Large intermetallic layers form when attempting to fusion weld insoluble alloys. These intermetallic layers will eventually crack due to residual stresses during solidification or under loading. Innovative joining processes are under investigation to supply the growing demand of the industry for reliable dissimilar joining methods.
