Abstract
(en) [In vitro study of two nebulization modes : intrapulmonary percussion ventilation vs. pneumatic nebulization] Intrapulmonary percussive ventilation has been poorly studied although being more and more used as a physiotherapy technique. This device is coupled with a nebulizer. The purpose of the study is to compare in vitro characteristics of the nebulizer of IPV with a standard jet nebulizer. Granulometry is measured for both devices by an cascade impactor. The mass median aerodynamic diameter (0.2μm vs 1.89μm respectively for IPV and Sidestream) and the fine particle fraction are very small (16.2 % vs 67.5 %, respectively for IPV and SST) for IPV compared to Sidestream. IPV produce a nine-fold decreased emitted dose. In conclusion, there are large granulometric differences between both devices. Moreover, IPV characterstics seem unfavorable to recommend its use as nebulizer without further validation.
