- Abstract
- “Dance houses” have been a common recreational form in Hungary since the 1970s. Traditional choreographies are danced to folk music, played live by musicians experienced in this musical style. Lovers of folk music and dance will find, throughout the year, a varied program of activities centered around this intangible heritage: dance and music classes, jam sessions, folk taverns and folk camps at during the summer. The “subculture” which gradually formed around these practices of the body is based on and generates numerous issues: collective memory, nostalgia, identity, classification and archiving of cultural heritage. Identical repetitions, reinventions and creations are all processes shaping the policies of the body and the sensitive specific to these social groups, in the so-called “illiberal” contemporary Hungarian regime.
