Abstract
We study the dependence of var epsilon′/var epsilon on the values of the top quark mass mt, B-meson lifetime τ(B), Image and the strange quark mass ms (1 GeV) in the framework of the standard model. We use the 1/N approach to calculate the hadronic matrix elements. We find a simple formula for var epsilon′/var epsilon as a function of the parameters listed above which to an excellent accuracy describes our numerical results. Restrictions from the experimental value of var epsilon allow two solutions for var epsilon′/var epsilon, one of which can be ruled out by the recently observed B0−Image 0 mixing. For Image , τB=1.1×10−12 s and 55 GeV less-than-or-equals, slant mt less-than-or-equals, slant 130 GeV find var epsilon′/var epsilon=[150 Mev/ms(1 GeV)]2·(1.7±1.0)×1.0−3. For ms(1 GeV) > 150 MeV the central experimental value for var epsilon′/var epsilon implies mt=O(50 GeV. Further constraints on var epsilon′/var epsilon coming from B0−Image 0 mixing are discussed.
