- (en) [Impact of MRI in the work up of prostate cancer] MRI of prostate cancer is now a functional imaging modality. It is based on IV injection of gadolinium, diffusion-weighted imaging and spectroscopy to localise a significant tumor missed by TRUS guided biopsies and evaluate (by coupling a pelvic coil and an endorectal coil) tumor local extent. Accuracy of lymph node metastases detection by lympho-MRI is limited by the lack of availability of the iron microparticules. Detection of bone metastases can be done by whole marrow MRI which can be combined with the detection of lymph node metastases. Functional MRI is accurate in case of biological recurrence after radiumtherapy or in case of hormonal independence.
