Abstract
(en) [Physiotherapy in exacerbation of COPD] Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a public health problem. It is the fifth leading cause of death worldwide and the mortality is expected to have doubled in 2020. It represents 5% of hospitalizations. The role of physiotherapy in intensive care was defined by a decree in 2002, updated in 2006. The management of this pathology in the ICU consist airway clearance techniques, instrumental or not, non-invasive ventilation, aerosoltherapy and mobilization. All these interventions present some aspects that require the technical expertise of a caring therapist. We will review these aspects and try to describe how to optimize the therapy necessary in case of a decompensation of COPD.
