The object of this paper is to re-analyse the results of Falliers et al.(1991) concerning the anti-allergic effect of cetirizine in seasonal allergic rhinitis, together with its possible induction of somnolence, taking into account the published data about cetirizine in allergic rhinitis, either in placebo-controlled trials, or in trials where cetirizine (10 mg) was compared to another active antiHl drug. Falliers et al.(l99l) paper is used as a case study for developing a Bayesian analysis of a general model for clinical trial, known as SORE (Sure Outcome of Random Effect) models, developed, in particular, in Bouckaert and Mouchan (1996-2001). The statistical inference is constructed within a Bayesian framework; the objective is accordingly the construction of posterior distributions on parameters of interest rather than the evaluation of point estimates. Following a meta-analytic approach, the prior information is based on a careful examination of the medical literature on the relevant clinical trials.
