(en) From the observation that different types of teaching practices exist and that these practices are not equally effective, we investigated the origin of these differences. Starting from the premise that the practices are influenced by cognition, we were interested in pedagogical beliefs and knowledge of teachers. These notions led us to describe the concept of working knowledge. This knowledge is dynamic, shaped by both the work and history of every teacher, and influences how they view their work. We located the origin of this working knowledge in primary and secondary socialization experiences, training and work experience.
