Grounded in educational research, this article explores the learning of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on online education platforms. We investigate how the pedagogical design of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) discussion forums can facilitate the co-construction of knowledge on essentially contested concepts such as CSR. To learn CSR, engaging in substantive discussions and content-related debates helps to broaden understanding of the concept and grasp its multidimensional nature. In this perspective, we implemented an intervention in a MOOC on CSR, with the aim to enhance forum pedagogical design to foster socio-cognitive interactions. We present the effects of the intervention on interaction quantity and quality through a mixed-method approach. Quantitative analysis indicates a significant increase in learner interactions after our intervention. To assess their potential for learning, ongoing qualitative analysis aims to evaluate the quality of these interactions and how learners collectively make sense of the various dimensions and associated tensions within CSR. We hope that the study's findings will help MOOC instructors to design forums in a way that makes them an environment conducive to cognitive and social learning. We aim to contribute to the discussion on learning essentially contested concepts on online education platforms, emphasizing how the co-construction of knowledge on topics like CSR or sustainability can be facilitated.
