- The incidence of myomas in infertile women without any obvious cause of infertility is estomated to be between 1 and 2.4%. The relationship between leiomyomas and infertility remains a subject of debate. To address this issue, we have tried to evaluate the impact of myomas on fertility and pregnancy outcome in different conditions where myomas are implicated. Medline research was conducted of publications appearing between 1988 and August 2001 on the subjects of myomas and myomectomy and their impact on fertility and pregnancy outcome in infertile women. One hundred and six manuscripts were consulted. The question is: do myomas influence fertility? We are obliged to write that the question remains. The absence of response to this crucial question is probably due to the fact that we have not yet conducted the appropriate prospective studies to obtain any clear answers.
