(en) The econonic theory of democracy, the pioneer of which was A. Downs ana]yses the working of the Political market, making use of basic economic concepts. The purpose of this paper is to try doing the same for the ideological market. The rationale behind such an attempt is that, between an ideological producer and his audience, there is an interaction similar to the interaction between a politician and his electorate, in a democratic setting.
