The problem about what is at work in a treatment remains the greatest enigma of clinical psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. We review the notion of " symbolic efficacy " established by Levi- Strauss because she become central to psychoanalytic tradition on what heals. The Lacanian idea that meaning is not what heals, nor interpretation, nor translation, but the fact that the analytical intervention “removes consistency” to the sense, is related to the theory of speech acts and more specifically to an pragmatic theory of metaphor. Drawing on some Mallarmé’s thoughts about poetry, the article argues that what is operative in psychoanalytic cure is not only the consistency reduction of sense neither make holes in the meaning. This operation - removes the sense consistency - would be effective if it promise a sense but not give it never fully.
