Abstract
Exploring two complementary methodological approaches in corpus analysis, our aim is to study a specific linguistic phenomenon, i.e. the phraseological behavior of the high frequency verb ‘prendre’. This will be done with the help of two corpora: a corpus of native French and a learner corpus of French as a foreign language (L1= English, Dutch). Firstly, by using a qualitative semi-automatized method of data treatment, we have investigated the degree of ‘fixity’ of phraseological units containing ‘prendre’ in L1 in terms of syntactic, semantic, lexical and/or pragmatic constrains. Secondly, we have analyzed the data (L1) from a quantitative point of view, by means of a frequency analysis. We have finally extended our analysis to learner corpora of French (L2). This latter part - which is still at the stage of a ‘pilot study’- will serve as a threshold towards a contrastive perspective.
