- (en) By initiating its constitution on the Church through a chapter about the origin and the Trinitarian mystery of it, the Vatican II has provided a great ecumenical service to the theology of ministries: they were located in their right place, a secondary place to the service of the primary mystical being of the Church. In addition, the existence of a chapter about the people of God as a whole before addressing the ordained ministries and the laity has the same effect: what is common to all the baptized comes before the distinctions of functions and charisma among them. The ordained ministries should also exercise in a synodal way and in communion with the entire Christian people, endowed with the baptismal priesthood and the sensus fidei. The effort of Chapter III of Lumen Gentium, thinking the sacramental nature of the episcopate, its roots in the apostolic succession and its collegial character, whatever be the limits, is in favor of an approximation with the episcopal type of Churches, but also with the Churches of Reformation. Finally, the decree on ecumenism, even recognizing certain serious differences regarded to ministries, presents the numerous links existing between the Catholic Church and other Churches, and allows to positively overcome the preceding locks.
