- Abstract
- The management of pregnancy with a bipolar patient represents a special case of medical care where collaboration is needed among different clinicians, general practitioners, obstetricians and psychiatrists. During pregnancy, practitioners, on the one hand, must weigh the effect (both short - and long-term) associated with various medications used in the stabilization and treatment of acute phases of illness, on the other hand, they should take into account the risks inherent to the interruption of drug treatment. This paper reviews recent literature focusing on key risks, monitoring to put in place during different stages of pregnancy and possible therapeutic abstentions.
