The structure of the complex obtained by reacting tin(II) dichloride dihydrate and oxine (8-hydroxyquinoline) has been characterized by IR, Mossbauer and NMR spectroscopy. The absence of coordinated water molecules was demonstrated by thermogravimetry. The stoichiometry of the complex obtained at pH 6.5 is tin(II)/oxinate in the molar ratio 1:2, as shown by Job's and molar ratio methods. The complex has a lambda(max) = 363 nm in aqueous solution. Its stability was investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The solubility of this complex in different media has been studied by spectrophotometry and its stability constant has been determined.
