Abstract
After recalling the fundamental concepts and results of the method of upper and lower solutions for periodic solutions of first order ordinary differential or difference equations, one constructs counterexamples to show that, in contrast to ordinary differential case, the lower solution has to be smaller than the upper solution in the case of difference equations, to make the method conclusive.
