In March2013,40leadingexpertsfromacrosstheworldgathered at aworkshop,hostedbytheEuropeanCommission,Directorate General JointResearchCentre,Italy,todiscussthemultiple benefits ofsoilcarbonaspartofaRapidAssessmentProcess (RAP) projectcommissionedbyScientific CommitteeonProblems of theEnvironment(SCOPE).Thiscollaborationledtothe publicationoftheSCOPESeriesVolume71 “Soil Carbon:Science, ManagementandPolicyforMultipleBenefits”; whichbrings togethertheessentialscientific evidenceandpolicyopportunities regardingtheglobalimportanceofsoilcarbon.Thisshort communicationsummarisesthekeymessagesoftheassessment includingresearchandpolicyimplications.
