Abstract
After a review of the common methods of teaching mechanics to engineering and applied science students, an effort is described of reconciliation between the requirements of a rigorous approach and practical applications. The first year course covers Euler mechanics, the second year course demands a higher level of mathematics. The most common errors and inaccuracies in various text books are briefly discussed.
