Abstract
What are a country’s traditional and non-traditional security challenges? How are these being discussed and by whom? What is the relevance of security, ethics and human rights to these issues? Questions like these are often addressed in security policies. Yet to date an overview of these concerns does not exist. Research conducted within the project EvoCS fills this gap. This chapter presents an overview of these perceptions across the Netherlands, Serbia and the UK and provides a description of the methodology. The majority of the salient security challenges in all three countries are also prominent in the EU policy discourse. In conclusion, the three analysed countries are surprisingly similar to each other, considering the many differences between them. From a European point of view, this might be seen as an opportunity since future European Security Strategies can better address shared security problems of both EU and (possible future) non-EU members.
