Abstract
This paper presents the three most frequent French right peripheral discourse markers (DMs) in a French text message corpus gathered in Belgium: quoi, alors and donc. As DMs, they are analysed through their semantic distribution. The paper focuses also on their position distribution. From the assumption that DMs are essential for interaction, my aim is to prove that DMs do occur in right peripheral position in text messages, a spontaneous computer mediated communication type with writing constraints determined by the communication medium and the situation. I show that DMs act differently according to their nature. Even if their semantic meaning is driven by their position, quoi, alors and donc have also specific functions in the right periphery, namely propositional, structural and modal functions.
