- Exactly as much as we should not overestimate the politicization of citizens regarding European integration (Van Ingelgom 2014), maybe we should also be cautious concerning the politicizing behaviour of political parties. Of course, they are central actors in the process of politicization (Hooghe and Marks 2009); still I argue we have to ask to what extent they really care about the EU.
